The present day Barn Pavilion was built Circa 1949, after the original barn that Andrew built was struck by lightning and burned to the ground.  The construction of the new barn was completed shortly before Halloween.  To celebrate its completion, a large neighborhood Halloween party was held in the upper hay loft.  From time to time, other neighborhood gatherings took place in the barn from 1949 until 1973.
After purchasing the farm in 1973, Mike Arians felt compelled to carry on that tradition.  Over the coming years, he hosted community gatherings and functions, using the Barn as a Park-like pavilion.
These functions were designed to promote and involve the community as a whole.  The gatherings ranged from fund raisers for organizations and individuals in need, to weddings, reunions, local school district employee retirement parties, church socials, 4-H projects/award nights, and Mike's ever popular dinner theater shows.(Most of the time the actors were provided by Elgin Community College Students)
Please feel free to view the photos and written comments that represent a cross section of the events that took place on the old homestead grounds from 1973 through 1998.
